ABOUT Giuliano Maiolo
“As his dad, I’ve watched him go through more in a few years than most do in a lifetime, and he’s never once stepped back.”
He’s done it before, now he’s coming back stronger. This is G’s journey.
Giuliano Maiolo, known to everyone as “G”, is preparing to represent Victoria at the Special Olympics Australia National Games in Melbourne this October 2026.
This isn’t his first time.
He’s been here before.
But this time, it means even more.
Basketball is where G found his confidence, his voice, his place in the world.
Often the youngest on the team, he didn’t wait to be ready, he stepped up. He earned respect through effort, attitude, and showing up when it mattered most.
And when life tested him, he showed exactly who he is.
At just 16 years old, G lost his mum, Grace.
In the weeks that followed, everything changed, even when it was the last place he felt like being, he stepped onto the court and represented Victoria at the 2022 National Games.
He didn’t just show up, he rose to the moment.
Eight months later, in June 2023, he went even further, representing Australia on the international stage in Berlin Germany.
While still carrying a loss that never really leaves, he chose to keep moving forward.
Most people would have stepped back.
G stepped forward.
And then, right after representing his country, came another major challenge.
A full knee reconstruction.
No break, no pause, just life asking more of him.
And still, the work continued.
Through months of rehab, setbacks, and quiet work no one sees, he rebuilt himself, physically and mentally. No shortcuts, no excuses, just discipline, resilience, and belief.
That’s who he is.
And that’s why people believe in him.
Now, in October 2026, he returns to the National Games in Melbourne, not just as an athlete, but as a leader, someone who lifts others, someone who gives back, someone who represents everything the Special Olympics stands for, courage, determination, inclusion, and heart.
But what you’re really supporting is something much bigger.
You’re backing a young man who stood up when life knocked him down,
who kept going when he had every reason not to,
who continues to rise, again and again.
This isn’t just about one tournament.
It’s about coming back stronger. And for G, it’s a chance to once again earn selection to represent Australia.
Because athletes like G don’t just compete.
They lead, they inspire, they set the standard.
And if you’ve ever seen him play, you’ll understand why.
If you’ve followed G’s journey, or if his story resonates with you, we’d truly appreciate your support.
I couldn’t be prouder of the young man he’s becoming.
💙 Thank you for standing with G.
