We (Hamish's parents Emma and Ben) are excited to announce our fundraising campaign to support Hamish, and we need your help to reach his goal! Hamish is a 8 year old aspiring soccer player who is part of his local Estates Football Club. Hamish has been identified as a talented football player and is currently playing in the U10 team. Unfortunately, given his young age he does not have the opportunities available through Football Queensland because they don’t start identifying players until the age of 9, however, he has been invited to train with the FQ FNQ U9’s for the remainder of the year. We are hopeful after another year of hard work and sourcing our own opportunities for Hamish’s development and growth these opportunities will present themselves when he becomes of age. 

Soccer is more than just a game for Hamish. He lives and breathes soccer and is at his happiest when he is on the soccer pitch. Hamish currently trains 5 days per week, and these training sessions combine a mixture of individual lessons with his individual development coach Ian Bonato, and group training with his U10 community team, with ongoing opportunities for him to train with the U14 Wulguru Academy Team and his High-Performance Team at Jeremy Brockie. Soccer is a platform for Hamish to learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and perseverance. For Hamish, soccer provides a positive outlet for self-expression and a sense of belonging. However, playing at a competitive level comes with significant costs, including:

Uniforms & equipment: purchase, maintenance and repairs, ensuring Hamish is fully equipped and ready for the season.

•             Travel Expenses: covering the costs of training camps, competitions, transport, and accommodation. 

·        Hamish attended the Real Madrid Soccer Camp in Brisbane in April 2025 which was a transformative 5 day camp experience, featuring 6 hours of daily football training.  The camp was very competitive with young aspiring soccer players from across Australia participating in a camp that focused on talent development.

·        Hamish was invited to attend Brisbane City Football club to train with their U8, 9’s and 10’s Academy teams in April 2025 and was also invited to attend their 2 day Skills Workshop in April 2025. Hamish was invited back to train with the Brisbane City Academies in June 2025. Hamish has also been advised that the Brisbane City U9 Academy Team are going over to Japan in April 2026 to train and play, and he has been invited to try out with the team throughout the year to see if he is able to secure himself a place with the team. 

·        Hamish was also invited by Brisbane Olympic Football club to train with their U9 and U10 Academy and Kangaroo Teams in August 2025.

·        Coaching & Training: Access to top-tier coaching, skills development, and resources.

·        Hamish currently trains 5 days per week, and these training sessions combine a mixture of individual lessons with his individual development coach Ian Bonato, and group training with his U10 team, group training with his U8 High Performance Team at Jeremy Brockie, and with ongoing opportunities for him to train with the U14 Wulguru Academy Team.

Over the past 18 months Hamish has been supported and guided by his individual development coach, Ian Bonato. As part of his football development program, Hamish had the unique opportunity to immerse himself in the culture of football at the highest level when he travelled to Japan in 2024. During his time with the Yokohama F Marinos, a professional J-League team, Hamish was granted exclusive access to closed training sessions, where he gained invaluable insights into the training methods of one of Japan's top football clubs. He had the chance to meet professional J-League players and learned firsthand about the dedication and commitment required to excel in Japan’s renowned football academies.

In addition to his training sessions, Hamish was fortunate to witness live matches, including a thrilling game between the Yokohama F. Marinos and the Singapore National Team, as well as a match against Niigata FC. These experiences gave him a deeper understanding of the intensity and passion that defines Japanese football culture.

Hamish’s trip to Japan has only strengthened his determination and passion for the game. His experiences have fuelled his ambition to continue working hard on his development with the goal of one day playing professional football.
