Harriet Caldwell

In 2023 at 13yo, life changed in an instant for me as I stretched ahead of basketball. I became instantly paralyzed from a very rare Spinal Cord Stroke.

    ABOUT Harriet Caldwell

After being told I’d never walk again, I (with the love & support of my parents & sister) chose a positive mindset & have put in a solid 2-years of never giving in emotionally, nor giving up on the agonising physical effort it’s taken to activate and strengthen the muscles affected by the paralysis.

I now mobilize on crutches most days & have found my love for Wheelchair Basketball! #everythinghappensforareason

I began my wheelchair basketball training in August 2024, and made my debut for Victoria in January 2025. I have just returned from competing at Junior Nationals in Brisbane and my focus & excitement is now on the Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball League (WNWBL) season from May-August.

I’ll continue to travel from Bendigo to Melbourne to attend training twice weekly, and I’m dedicated to my Physio & Gym/Strength Training sessions around my school timetable.

I really want to be able to revisit ‘Making Strides’ on the Gold Coast (Australia’s hub for Spinal Cord Injuries) for another beneficial block of intensive therapy, so I can continue to positively progress so I can one day be strong enough to walk unaided.
