More than a boat. It's a place to belong.

Every week, the Hawkesbury River Dragons bring together people from across the Lower Hawkesbury, Hornsby and Central Coast regions to paddle, connect and support one another.

Our club is home to people from all walks of life, including older adults, women, breast cancer survivors, veterans, LGBTQIA+ community members and people seeking friendship, connection and improved wellbeing. Many members join for fitness, but stay because of the friendships, support and sense of belonging they find on the water.

Over the past few years our club has continued to grow, and demand for participation is increasing. We are welcoming more people than ever who want to experience the physical, mental and social benefits of dragon boating.

To continue growing and provide opportunities for more people to participate, we are raising funds to purchase an additional 20-person dragon boat.

An additional boat will allow us to:

Increase opportunities for community participation

Reduce barriers for new paddlers joining the club

Support more community "come and try" events

Increase opportunities for women and older adults to participate in sport

Expand access for breast cancer survivors and veterans

Strengthen community wellbeing and social connection

This project is about much more than purchasing equipment. It is about investing in a healthier, more connected and more inclusive community.

Our track record

We know how to deliver community projects.

Over the past 18 months our volunteer-run club successfully secured funding, worked with council to obtain approvals, coordinated suppliers and deliveries, and managed the installation of a 40-foot storage container for club equipment. When challenges arose during installation, our members worked together with local contacts to resolve issues and ensure the project was completed successfully. The container is now fully operational, including volunteer-built shelving and storage systems.

We are equally committed to this project and have already demonstrated strong community support through fundraising activities, including raising approximately $3,000 at our recent Bunnings community BBQ.

Every donation will help us bring more people onto the water and into our community.

Your Impact

Every donation Helps create more opportunities for people to connect, belong and thrive through community sport.

Closing Statement

When you support this campaign, you're not simply helping purchase a dragon boat.

You're helping create opportunities for friendship, health, inclusion and community connection for hundreds of people for years to come.

Join us in launching the next dragon boat for our community. 🚣‍♀️🚣‍♂️🚣
