    ABOUT Holly Ranson

    Mooloolah Valley, QLD

Holly Ranson is one of Australia’s most formidable ultra-endurance athletes. Holly begun her sporting journey as a sailor at the age of 6, before taking up triathlon as a young adult. After winning an International Triathlon Union age group world championship, she briefly competed as a professional triathlete, before injury saw her transition to cycling. Holly competed in the National Road Series and Queensland Road Teams Series for several years.

In 2019 Holly tried trail and ultra-running and found her true niche. Since then, she has excelled at various ultra disciplines, claiming national records across 12-hour, 24-hour, 100-mile and 200km distances and the backyard ultra race format. She owns multiple course records for 50km and 100km trail ultramarathons around Australia. After the IAU 24-Hour World Championships in France in October 2025, Holly is ranked second in the world and provisionally holds the world record for the 35-39 age category.

Away from the track and trail, Holly is a former firefighter and lifeguard, and an accredited practicing dietitian with a graduate diploma in psychology. Holly is currently working in management in first responder health and wellbeing, an area she is passionate about. She is currently completing a Doctor of Philosophy, combining her interest in nutrition, psychology and first responder health by writing a thesis on the social influences on firefighters' occupational dietary behaviour.

Holly is a fully self-coached and self-funded athlete, with the exception of T8 running gear donated by Endurance Edge Australia, and her invaluable mindset coaching by Rob Mason of Mindset for Runners.

Holly feels that she is capable of achieving more, inspiring more, and delivering more for trail and ultra-running in Australia. However, to reach her full potential and be truly competitive on the world stage, Holly needs to be able to step back from full-time to part-time work (or full-time study) while still meeting the costs of travel, race entries, equipment, sports nutrition, recovery, medical etc.

Financial support will allow Holly to increase her training mileage and add dedicated recovery time to her schedule, giving her the best chance of achieving her goals:

    • compete at prestigious trail ultras Western States Endurance Run and UTMB
    • Complete the 200-mile triple crown in the US
    • Attempt to set world records across a range of timed ultra events
    • Move the sport of trail and ultrarunning forward in Australia
