Two States, One Dream: Bridging the 3,000km Dance Gap

Who's Hugo?

Hugo Crisp Crow is a 13-year-old State and National Ballroom, Latin, and New Vogue Champion from the the coast of Western Australia. Known for his infectious energy and boundless enthusiasm for the sport, Hugo is also the co-author of the celebrated children’s book, Hugo Dances.

But at the elite level of DanceSport, talent is only half the battle. The other half is finding a partner.

The Challenge: A Partnership Without Borders

In the competitive Junior circuit, the search for a compatible partner can be disheartening. After an exhaustive search, it became clear: there were no suitable partners in the appropriate age group in Western Australia. In 2025, Hugo took the opportunity to dance in the older age group for Ballroom and New Vogue, becoming finalists at Nationals for NV. But the dream has always been Junior Latin National finals so, to continue the trajectory, Hugo had to look to an interstate partnership.

He found the perfect match 3,000kms away in Victoria.

They have the chemistry, the skill, and the shared ambition to dominate on the national floor. They practice daily showcasing incredible self-management and dedication. They have forward-thinking, committed coaches from both states.

The only thing in their way is the Nullarbor Plain.

What We Are Raising Funds For

Maintaining a transcontinental partnership is a massive logistical and financial undertaking. To remain competitive, Hugo must travel from Perth to Melbourne every two months for intensive training blocks.

We are raising funds to cover:

  • Airfares: Return flights between Perth and Melbourne for training and state and National championships.
  • Associated Costs: Extra coaching to maximise the couple's time together, accomodation, essential travel required to represent WA on the East Coast.

Each training visit costs upwards of $1,500 and with a full season of national events ahead, the costs are soaring.

Why We Care

We believe that geographical location shouldn't be the end of the road for a talented athlete. Hugo has dedicated over half his life to this sport, training daily and acting as a partner for others in his community, including his Junior paradance partner who won Gold in every event at her first Australian National Championships in 2025. He has the heart of a champion; he just needs the wings to get to the dance floor.

How We’ll Make It Happen

With your support, we are building a travel fund that ensures Hugo and his partner never miss a critical training window. By streamlining costs and focusing on high-impact intensive blocks, every dollar donated goes directly toward flight costs, accomodation gaps (Hugo will stay with generous coaches and friends for most trips), and coaching intensives. We are all working overtime (Mum and Dad and Grandma!) and Hugo has reduced his Perth lessons and given up the rising costs of dancing coach student to focus more time on self-managed practice and implementing the online training from his Melbourne coaches.

Will you help Hugo bridge the gap? Every donation, big or small, is tax-deductible and brings Hugo one lockstep closer to the dream: on the podium for the Junior Finals at Aussies.
