ABOUT Hunter Kalleske
Hunter’s Basketball Journey
Basketball has always been far more than just a sport for Hunter.
Only six months after first picking up a basketball, while watching the Boomers compete at the Tokyo Olympics, Hunter turned to his mum and said, “Mum, I want to play basketball at the Brisbane Olympics.”
From that moment, something shifted.
The Dream
What started as a game quickly became purpose, identity, and a dream he has chased relentlessly ever since.
Behind every game is a family doing everything they can to help a young boy hold onto that dream.
There have been thousands of kilometres driven across South Australia, countless late nights, early mornings, weekends spent on the sidelines of basketball stadiums, and sacrifices made quietly behind the scenes.
As parents, we have spent 7–8 hours at a time sitting courtside, juggling work, family life, finances, and time away from our other children, simply trying to give Hunter every opportunity possible to grow.
The Work Behind the Dream
And through all of it, Hunter has continued to show up.
He has trialled, and trialled, and trialled again for development squads and representative opportunities.
He has faced setbacks, uncertainty, difficult experiences within the junior basketball system, and moments that would have made many young athletes walk away from the game altogether.
Instead, he kept training.
Kept learning.
Kept believing.
Basketball has become the place where Hunter has learned resilience, discipline, leadership, accountability, and belief in himself.
Hunter is a dedicated young athlete from regional South Australia who studies the game deeply and dreams of pursuing basketball at the highest level possible.
Coaches and mentors have recognised his defensive intensity, determination, coachability, leadership qualities, and significant long-term upside as he continues developing physically and mentally.
Recently, Hunter was given the opportunity to compete at the U16 South Australian State Championships, where he performed strongly against high-level competition, finishing among the tournament’s leading scorers while also contributing across rebounding, assists, steals, and defensive pressure.
Why We’re Fundraising
As a family, we have reached a point where we genuinely feel that accessing higher-level coaching, specialised development, and broader pathway opportunities may be the only way forward for Hunter to continue reaching his potential.
We are now exploring elite development programs, advanced coaching pathways, travel opportunities, strength and conditioning support, and mentorship that can help bridge the gap between local basketball and the next level.
These opportunities come at a significant financial cost.
This fundraiser has been created to help support Hunter’s basketball journey and give him access to the coaching, resources, travel, and development opportunities needed to continue pursuing the dream he spoke out loud as a little boy watching the Olympics on the couch.
