Bullying got Indi onto the BJJ mats. What happened next changed the way I understood my daughter.Indi Gordon is 12 years old and neurodivergent. Traditional classroom learning can be challenging for her, but on the mats we discovered something extraordinary: the very differences that can make conventional learning difficult became some of her greatest strengths.BJJ gave Indi a language that made sense to her.She sees patterns. She understands movement and space. She reads what an opponent is doing, anticipates what may happen next and changes strategy in real time. She learns through movement, repetition and experience. That is where Different by Design . Powerful by Nature was born. What began as a way to help a little girl who had experienced bullying find confidence has grown into a serious competitive pathway.Indi now competes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in both Gi and No-Gi and has already brought home multiple gold medals. But the medals are only part of her story. Her commitment happens when nobody is watching. She gets up at 5:30am for yoga. She trains BJJ and Judo throughout the week, works on her strength, conditioning, mobility and flexibility, studies fights and practises strategy. If there is no class, she finds another way to train.Ask Indi what she wants and she wont hesitate:An Australian National title and a Pan Pacific title. Our 2026/2027 campaign is about giving her a genuine opportunity to chase those goals. To compete at this level, Indi needs more than determination. Competition registrations, federation memberships, specialist competition coaching, interstate travel, accommodation, transport and the ongoing costs of training add up quickly. Our $25,000 fundraising target will help support Indi's 2026/2027 competitive pathway, including competition and registration fees, specialist coaching and preparation, interstate competitions, travel and accommodation, and other eligible training and competition expenses associated with pursuing Nationals and the Pan Pacific Championships. As her mum, I have watched BJJ change the way Indi sees herself. On the mats, difference is not something that needs to be corrected. It can become an advantage. And there is something bigger developing alongside her competition goals. As Indi grows, she wants to coach and help create safe, inclusive environments where other neurodivergent children can discover what they are capable of too. This campaign is not about guaranteeing a medal.Nobody can promise that.It is about making sure a young athlete who is prepared to do the work gets the opportunity to stand on the mat and find out how far she can go.Every donation helps put another competition, another training opportunity and another step on that pathway within reach.Different by Design. Powerful by Nature.Help Indi chase Nationals and Pan Pacs and let's see just how far this girl can go.
