    ABOUT Jasper Stay

    Nedlands, WA

I began sailing at age eight at Sun City Sailing Club in Two Rocks before moving to Hillarys Yacht Club, where I completed Tackers 3 in the Optimist class, and have since spent approximately seven years racing and training with Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club and Fremantle Sailing Club across the Optimist, 29er, ILCA 4 and now ILCA 6 classes.

Early success included selection to the Australian Optimist Development Team, and in 2023 I transitioned to ILCA 4 with immediate impact, winning the Youth Championships at my first regatta in the class after just four months of sailing, using a club boat and sail—an achievement that confirmed my ambition to pursue a high-performance pathway in ILCA sailing. Known for my strong sportsmanship, work ethic, and positive approach, I balance a competitive mindset with a warm, likeable personality that has earned respect among peers.

Beyond racing, I actively contribute to the sailing community through coaching learn-to-sail programs, mentoring junior sailors at RFBYC and FSC, and serving as Vice-Captain of the RFBYC Junior Committee in 2022–2023, while my recent selection to the Australian Sailing Youth Team and Youth Worlds further reflects both my leadership and desire to inspire others.

My long-term goal is to build a professional career in the ILCA class, progress to the full rig, represent Australia internationally, and ultimately win the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.
