Jasper is a determined young swimmer from Broome, Western Australia. What makes her journey truly unique is that she is an independent swimmer — not attached to any swimming club.

Jasper has grown up in Broome her entire life. As a little girl, she was creative, energetic, and passionate. She loved music, drawing, singing, and constantly creating her own songs. She has always been full of energy, curiosity, and positivity, bringing excitement and determination into everything she does.

From a very young age, Jasper has loved the ocean. She started Surf Life Saving when she was 5 years old. Her two older sisters had already been involved for years, and Jasper could not wait until she was old enough to finally wear the Surf Life Saving cap herself. She was so proud the moment she put the hat on and became part of the team.

Very quickly, it became obvious that Jasper was different. She moved through the water naturally — fast, fearless, and powerful. She became incredibly quick in the surf and was also a flag champion, showing explosive speed, reactions, timing, and competitiveness from such a young age.

Jasper has always had strong determination and drive. When she sets her mind on something, she gives everything to achieve it. Those qualities showed themselves early, and she continued becoming a champion year after year in different events. She can surf, is a brilliant body surfer, and has an incredible understanding of timing, movement, and speed in the water.

Jasper also has two big sisters who were swimmers as well. In 2019, all three girls unexpectedly lost their place within their swimming club. At the time, it was an incredibly confusing and frustrating experience for our family. There were many difficult moments, but we stayed together and worked through those challenges together.

What could have ended Jasper’s swimming journey instead became the beginning of something extraordinary.

After this happened, Jasper’s dad stepped into the coaching role with no formal coaching background. Starting completely from scratch through YouTube, research, trial and error, and endless dedication, our family committed ourselves to finding another pathway forward. Along this journey, we have been incredibly fortunate to meet amazing coaches and sports professionals who believed in Jasper and helped guide her development.

What began as a difficult experience has become something positive and powerful. Jasper’s journey is proof that there is no single pathway to success.

Unlike many elite swimmers who train multiple hours every day, Jasper has had very limited pool access. She trains only 30 minutes on weekdays and 1.5 hours on weekends. In Broome, we only have access to a 25m pool, so for Jasper to compete and win at national level in a 50m long course pool is something truly incredible.

In April 2026, Jasper achieved one of her biggest milestones yet by winning the Gold Medal in the Girls 14 Years 50m Butterfly at the 2026 Australian Age Championships. This achievement was the result of years of sacrifice, persistence, and belief in an unconventional journey.

Jasper’s 2026 National Title is believed to be a first for a Broome / Kimberley-based athlete. It is an achievement that represents not only Jasper’s dedication, but also the spirit and resilience of regional athletes.

What amazes us most is that Jasper continues to surprise us at every competition. Somehow, she always finds another level when she races. Watching her grow, overcome challenges, and achieve things we once thought were impossible has been truly incredible.

Unfortunately, as an independent athlete, we have very limited opportunities to access grants or funding support. Most government and organization grants are designed for clubs, teams, or established sporting organizations, which means individual athletes like Jasper are often excluded. Living in regional Western Australia also makes access to support even more difficult.
