    ABOUT Kate Tihema

I’ve been playing ice hockey since I was 4 years old and have had the privilege of representing my sport at the State, National, and International levels. Over the years, I’ve played in 21 different countries, gaining invaluable experience and growth. I’ve been a proud member of the Australian National Women’s Ice Hockey team since 2014, and in 2025 I had the honour of being recognised for my achievement when I became one of 5 players to play 50 IIHF World Championship games on this team.

In addition to ice hockey, I also play rugby union at a state level. Since 2022, I’ve had the honor of representing South Australia on the Black Falcons, and most recently, I’ve served as vice-captain for the 2023 and 2024 campaigns. Both sports have shaped my athleticism, leadership, and determination, and I’m excited to continue excelling in both!

Ice hockey is not a sport that receives funding in Australia, so players like me cover upwards of $10,000 annually in fees, travel costs, ice time, and maintaining the fitness required to compete at this level. I’ve had the honor of being named alternate captain at the 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 World Championships, and have earned 3 gold medals and 3 silver medals in Division 2B. Your support will allow me to continue representing my country and striving for excellence on the international stage.

In April 2026, the Australian National team will be heading to Slovenia to compete in the Division 2A World Championships after winning a gold medal in NZ in 2025.

    Any contribution is greatly appreciated.
