Meet Lachlan Cove, a jack of all trades working his way up the motorsport ladder with his family in tow. Lachlan is a 22-year-old from Western Australia, with dreams of a motorsport career and already a force to be reckoned with. Currently Lachlan is competing in the 2025 WA State Excel Cup Series, but that's only the tip of the iceberg with Lachlan.

Lachlan didn't start racing the traditional way. In rural Victoria Lachlan's passion developed. Living rural meant lots of developing practical skills, repairing, maintaining, building. He learnt to drive before he could reach the pedals, from tractors, mowers, skidsteers, buggies, motorbikes, anything with wheels and an engine and he drove it. The Cove family has always been racing tragics, his father Troy having a keen passion for motorbikes, and his mother Naomi a sucker for V8 Supercars. From this Lachlan began his own off-road time attack, making tracks in the paddocks and completing them as fast as possible. From here he found his first project, an old beat up car he fixed and learnt in, reading manuals and books to learn.

After moving over to Western Australia, his passion would continue to simmer in the background. The turning point was when the family purchased a retired racecar, a 1978 Datsun 280z. At this time Lachlan got his learners, and so the car once again graced the track with Lachlan behind the wheel. From the get-go, Lachlan proved he could drive, keeping pace with seasoned veterans. The team of Lachlan and Troy entered into their first race in 2022, a difficult road course that whilst didn't end successfully, it still showcased Lachlan's composure behind the wheel. This would be highlighted the following year when Lachlan would place 1st in that same event by a large margin. It was here that motorsport was no longer a hobby for Lachlan, but a dream, and an achievable one at that. It was here that Lachlan purchased his Hyundai Excel, as well as bringing his two younger sisters Charlotte (17) and Ashleigh (15) along for the journey, the trio all racing in the same category for the 2025 season.

Not only is Lachlan a driver, he is so much more. Lachlan is the mechanic for all of the cars, repairing and managing setups, taking driver feedback and adapting it for each driver, he is also a professional driver coach helping people get behind the wheel, but mainly to help is two younger sisters improve and chase their dreams. He does all of this whilst working alongside partners, managing the media aspect, as well as pushing for podiums and the Rookie Championship, all in his first ever season.

The path through motorsport is a rough one and an expensive one at that. Tires, transport, entry fees, safety gear, mechanical upkeep, the financial strain is very much real for one driver, yet alone three young drivers. Lachlan is determined to race, and will do anything to stay on track, but most importantly he is determined to help his family achieve their dreams. He pushes for the next generation of racers, especially young women in motorsport through his younger sisters, and that's why your support means so much.
