Finley Symonds - 15yrs Skipper

I started sailing at 7yrs with in an opti & open skiff. After progressing through the fleet in all local regattas learning all the fundamental skills, strategy & tactics that I would need for my sailing career. I moved into the Flying Ant with Lucas in Mid 2021. With the arrival of an XS rig we started training in the 29er by the end of 2021 whilst continuing to compete in the Flying Ant. In Oct 2022 we started transitioning into the full rig and haven’t looked back. In-between the 9er I have also competed in the Open Skiff Nationals and various Hobie regattas both as an individual & a team

Lucas Cunningham - 15 years

I have been sailing since I can remember with mum & dad regularly strapping my car seat to our family keelboat since I was about 3mths old. Once I was big enough I started out in an Opti from about 5yrs. I also started in the Pelican as I really enjoyed being a crew. Friends introduced me the The Flying Ant in late 2020 and I’ve never looked back. I sail keelboats at every opportunity having competed in Etchells, S80s & S97s fleets & I regularly sheethand for a Sharpie.

After our 4 years of training together, our goal is to get big fleet experience. Porto Worlds will be our 1st international event and it will be a huge effort & experience. The ultimate goal would be to able to follow that up with a summer on the east coast and then the 2026 Nationals in Tasmania. All funds raised will go directly to our expenses for the Worlds in Porto. Our aim is to help our parents cover the regatta, charter & coaching fees.
