    ABOUT Rachel Ciantar Kelly

    West Wodonga, VIC

Im Maddy, Im 14yo. I have been playing Blind and Low Vision tennis for 3 years now after learning that I have a degenerated eye condition. BLV tennis is played on a modified tennis court with a sound ball. I can not rely on my vision to see the ball, and rely on my other senses to play. In BLV tennis we play on a modified court with a sound ball.

I am being coached by Margaret Court Academy Head Coach, Gary Comins. I play both in the Junior and Womens tennis divisions. I am currently the Australian Girls Champion. I am also the National B4 Runners up in Womens Singles and Womens Doubles. I am so well supported at Margaret Court Tennis Academy. Phil Shannon regularly takes videos of me, documenting my story and promoting my cause.

This year I have been sponsored to represent Australia at the World BLV Tennis Championships in Lithuania. It's a tournament that occurs every 2 years. I am looking for some financial support to help me to get there.

I am passionate about BLV tennis because on court, it's an even playing ground. We are all playing with our challenges, but it doesn't matter. Fierce rivals on the court, dear friends off the court. The BLV community, supported by Blind Sports and Recreation Victoria is a supportive enviroment where everyone can be their best.

I have big plans for 2026. Attending the World Championships is just one, I want to grow a local BLV tennis community on the border, and also spread the news that we are not defined by our disabilities, but by our abilities, Diversability matters xxxx
