    ABOUT Maia Laird

    Bowen Hills, QLD

Maia is coming into 2026 with amazing challenges and opportunities in front of her. 2025 saw her travel to Adelaide, Melbourne, Singapore and NZ representing Fortitude Boxing and Team George Boxing, chasing the fights and experiences she needed to take the next step forward as one of the rising female amateur fighters in Australia and NZ.

Maia comes in lighter than her peers, competing until this year at 48kg. This makes getting fights at her experience level here in QLD almost impossible, which has led to her travelling for opportunities in 2025. She took risks, fighting up some times as much as 3 weight divisions, as well as fighting adults in Singapore. Travelling to NSW and Victoria to get training and sparring. Staying focussed on being the hardest worker in the room; putting being a good teammate and person even before being a fighter.

2026 has already seen Maia make her international debut, representing Australia at the World Futures Cup. Her focus is now on keeping her Australian spot and fighting at the World Youth Championships in Montenegro in October. Nothing has been achieved, and nothing is guaranteed. We need your help to give Maia the best shot at not just qualifying, but challenging for the title at the world level. Any support you can give will help with travel and coaching costs, and through ASF, be tax deductible in Australia. With travel already planned to Adelaide and a further trip to NZ, it's Maia's time to step up.

We will also use this fund and your donations to support other female fighters through the GirlSquad, where we organise travel and logistics for female boxers regardless of their home gym to get fight opportunities throughout Australia and NZ.

No funds raised through ASF will be used towards parent/family travel costs. Donors will be provided a link to a cloud location holding full transparency of costs and spending. Sizeable or business donations will be offered opportunities to collaborate with Maia on branding etc.

Maia is an exceptional kid. I know thats her dad talking, but she really is. She's held in high esteem by coaches, peers and teachers, and is a straight A student while managing her training workload. She would be a credit to any sponsors or supporters. It's not great to need to ask for help to make opportunities possible for your kid, thats just not something a dad should need to ask for. We don't take your support lightly or for granted.
