ABOUT MANNING RIVER SAILING CLUB
Flood Impact Statement – Manning River Sailing Club
The Manning River Sailing Club has once again been devastated by severe flooding on the Manning River—this time, at levels never before experienced. After just recovering from the significant 2021 floods, our clubhouse has been breached and heavily damaged, impacting not only our operations but also the wider community who rely on our facilities.
Our hall and kitchen, which generate a substantial portion of our club’s income, require major repairs. The boat storage racking was destroyed by the force of the floodwaters, and approximately half of our boats have been damaged beyond repair. Despite our best efforts to safeguard equipment by moving it to the upper level, much of it was lost when the sheer force of the water forced open the clubhouse doors, flooding the upper level as well.
Our clubhouse serves as a hub for several local boat clubs and is a shared space used by numerous community-based sporting, recreational, and service organisations. The Manning River Sailing Club is also a proud supporter of the local Sailability program, providing volunteers, boats, and facilities to ensure people living with disability can access the joy of sailing.
In a town with a significant elderly and disability population, our club plays a vital role in offering inclusive, community-centered services. The recent damage has not only disrupted our operations but has also impacted many community members who depend on our facilities and programs.
We are now facing a challenging road to recovery and are seeking support to rebuild and restore this important community asset.
