ABOUT Matida Ryan
Hi, I’m Matilda Ryan!
Athletics has been part of my life from a young age. A friend first introduced me to the sport, but growing up in a very active family meant I was always on the move — whether that was running, playing netball, basketball, or even giving triathlons a go. I simply loved being active, and that passion eventually led me to athletics.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to achieve some incredible milestones. I’ve represented Australia at both Under 20 and Under 23 level, become a back-to-back Australian Under 18 and Under 20 800m Champion, won four Uni Nationals 800m titles, and successfully transitioned to the 400m hurdles in the 2025/26 season, making the national final and becoming a Uni Nationals champion in the event.
My goal is to continue progressing towards making a senior Australian team while never losing sight of what I love most about the sport — enjoying the process. Every training session is completed with intention, and I’m committed to getting the most out of every opportunity.
Away from the track, I’m currently studying and enjoy spending time reading, colouring, swimming, listening to music, playing with my dog, and being around family and friends. I’m also passionate about supporting people as they navigate their own journeys through life, particularly during their twenties, when everyone’s path can look so different.
Giving back is important to me. I work as an athletics coach and strength and conditioning coach, coach within a school environment, and currently mentor a young athlete who is finding her way back to the track. I’m also passionate about autism awareness, inspired by my brother, who proudly advocates for himself and helps educate others about autism within his school community.
Thank you to everyone who supports my journey. Your encouragement allows me to continue pursuing my goals while giving back to the sport and communities that have given me so much.
