ABOUT Max Shervington
I am a UWA student-athlete and middle-distance runner currently competing at the highest level nationally and internationally. Over the past five years, I have progressed steadily through Australian athletics, achieving personal best performances each season and earning national team selection in 2025.
I am the current WA State Champion in the Open Men’s 800m, 1500m, 3000m and 5000m, and a National Open finalist in the 1500m. At the 2025 Australian Athletics Championships in Perth, I placed 8th in the 1500m and 11th in the 5000m, running a personal best of 3:38.88 in the 1500m.
In 2025, I was selected by Australian Athletics to represent Australia at the FISU World University Games in Germany. In preparation for this campaign, I travelled to Europe for my first international season to gain exposure to higher-level racing. During this period, I achieved a personal best of 1:49.00 in the 800m in Belfast and recorded multiple sub 3:41 performances in the 1500m.
Alongside my athletic career, I am committed to my Masters of Mechanical Engineering education at the University of Western Australia and I have been working at Primero as an Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer for 4 years now. I train 20–25 hours per week, balancing high training loads with academic and proffesional workplace responsibilities. In recognition of this balance and commitment, I was awarded the 2025 Ron Clarke Scholarship, a national award presented to one Australian student distance runner each year.
I am raising funds to support the costs of international competition, travel, accommodation, coaching, and recovery, which are essential to continuing my development and maintaining my place on the national stage. Competing overseas is critical for progression in middle-distance running, but it comes with significant financial demands.
In 2026 my goals are to run 3:34 in the 1500m whislt on my European Campaign which would be a 4 second PB. Your support will directly contribute to my ability to train, race, and represent both UWA and Australia at the highest possible level, as I work toward future international championships and professional competition. Thank you for being part of this journey.
