ABOUT Mia Waters
Sailing has been apart of my life for as long as I remember, I love being on the water, whether its racing, going for a sail after school or sharing my knowledge and coaching at Esperance Bay Yacht Club on Saturday mornings. My sailing journey started in 2016 when I was 6, crewing on a Pelican and competing in the State Titles at EBYC. I developed a love for the sport and bought my first boat at age 10 and skippered my first Pelican States in 2020, aged 11. I continued to sail a Pelican until January 2025, where I then further extended my skills in the ILCA 4.7, National 125, Hobie 16, Windrush 14 and Formula 18 classes. I realised I wanted to take my sailing further so we purchased a Nacra 15 (a high performance catamaran that is the official World Sailing Youth Multihull) in 2025. I have spent the last few months learning the quirks of the boat through attending the WA Nacra 15 training camp as well as spending many hours out on the water. In April 2026 I wish to compete in the 2026 Australian Nacra 15 National Championships held at Woollahra Sailing Club in Sydney. This event is the qualifier for the Australian Youth Team heading to the 2026 Youth Sailing World Championships in Vilamoura, Portugual, as well as the selection event for the Australian Sailing Youth Squad. I have set up this page so that going to Sydney for the Nacra 15 Nationals can be made possible and help me take my sailing to the next level. The funds raised will specifically cover the costs of travelling, getting my boat across Australia, accommodation and regatta fees.
