ABOUT Michael Ford
I took up Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) in 2020 at the tender age of 57, and got to represent Australia at the world championships in Belgium in 2023 at the age of 60. Since then I have represented Australia subsequent World Championships in Costa Rica in 2024, Sweden in 2025, and Brisbane, Australia in 2026. I managed to snag a silver medal at both Costa Rica and Australia OCR world championship events.
The journey has not been easy, as I had previously suffered a nasty back injury (rupture lumbar disc) some years earlier. But perseverance and consistency have been my way though recovery and surprisingly, into representing the country in a particularly demanding sport. Go figure?
Anyhow, I am looking to go to Beijing, China in September 2026 to represent Australia for the UIPM Obstacle Course Racing World Championships, and hopefully bring back some medals to do my community proud.
The costs of this sport really add up when you include race fees, travel, accommodation, incidentals, uniforms, equipment, memberships, training & coaching, physiotherapies and treatment, and special supplementation.
As I am not a professional or sponsored athlete, I do all of this out of my own pocket, so I am asking for tax deductible donations to assist with the costs of the sport. All will be much appreciated.
Thank you so much,
Michael
