ABOUT Multiclass Sports Association Incorporated

Ashwood, VIC

Multiclass Snowsports programs and activities provide the support necessary for people with disabilities to participate, train and compete in snowsports, in a safe environment alongside the mainstream program. Our programs are open to all students with an intellectual or physical disability, from both mainstream and special schools, as well for adults via the Special Olympics pathway.

The key priority of our project and underlying programs is to provide an excellent experience for participants with disabilities to take part in our inclusive snowsports programs and events, provide them with the supports necessary to participate and compete in snowsports, and deliver a pathway for continued engagement and opportunity.

We offer a Multiclass Snowsports Event for all primary and secondary aged students with an intellectual or physical impairment, as well as Special Olympic athletes, through inclusion as part of the mainstream Interschools event, promote acceptance for all and foster understanding and respect within the wider community. Together with Disabled Wintersport Australia, we organise a three-day event at Mt Buller, with two days of coaching on the slopes, followed by a race day, as part of the Victorian Interschools competitions. The programme subsidises gear hire and lift tickets, as well as a presentation dinner for all participants, where inspiring special guests speak about their journey. On the slopes, our athletes are provided coaching by certified ski instructors and supported by volunteer guides. The highlight of the event is the race day - the pre-race nerves, to exhilaration and joy as athletes courageously finish their run safely and confidently against their peers in a race environment.

We additionally provide a weekly Dryland Preparation Program, in the 3 months leading up to the Multiclass Snowsports Event, which develops essential fitness and conditioning, to both prevent injuries and help improve the quality of training for participants, once they are on the snow. The program is tailored to varied ability and adapted to address additional requirements of our participants. Additionally, the Dryland Program helps our organisation promote an ongoing healthy and active lifestyle that extends beyond the snowsports season.
