Newcastle Radio Yacht Squadron was established in 2022 and now has a membership that collectively owns over 50 radio control model yachts. The Squadrons members meet and race their yachts every Tuesday and every other Sunday. The Squadron provides a wonderful environment where people of all ages can enjoy the company of like-minded sailing enthusiasts where the sailing rules and principals of sailing are just the same as those in ocean-going yacht racing. The Squadron has welcomed returned soldiers and first responders for special events. When the squadon is sailing, pedestrians stop and watch the yachts as they race close to the prominade. NDIS support workers often take their patients to watch the racing from within their purpose built transporters. The Squadron now needs to provide better facilities to maintain and grow its membership. There are two projects which require imediate funding.

1. Newcastle Radio Yacht Squadron Inc. needs to estabish storage facitlities for its equipment. This entails purchasing a used Sea Container estimated to cost $6000. NRYS is an incorporated association and affiliated with Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club who are able to provide fenced and secure hardstand (adjacent to the waterfront) on which to place the container.
2. In an effort to minimise risk and improve safety, remote control buoys are required to reduce the need for people to be getting in and out of the clubs small rescue dinghy when setting and altering sailing courses. 6 buoys are required at a cost of $2000 each. These buoys are available for sponsorship and could if approprite, recognise the support of donors. NRYS is affilited with New South Wales Radio Yachting Association who in turn are affilited with Australia Sailing.
