ABOUT North Sunshine Football Club
Honouring the Crossroads
In 1967, Reverend John Blacker looked out at the literal crossroads of Ballarat and McIntrye Roads and saw more than just an intersection; he saw a generation of kids in Melbourne’s West who were searching for a heart. He didn’t just build a football club; he built a sanctuary where teamwork and character were the greatest gifts a child could receive. This was the birth of the Crossroads Football Club, a place where the “C-R” on our current crest stood for community, resilience, and a place to belong.
The Identity (The Roadrunners)
For nearly 60 years, that “small club, big heart” philosophy has sustained us. We became the Roadrunners, a name that reflected the frit and local pride of North Sunshine. Generations of families have found their home at Dempster Park, carrying the legacy of Rev. Blacker through every siren, every win, and every challenge.
The Hard Truth: A Legacy at Risk
However, the reality of the last three years cannot be ignored. A period of poor oversight and a departure from our core values have left the North Sunshine Football Club in a dire situation. This lack of stewardship pushed the club to the brink of collapse, threatening to silence the sire that has echoed through the West for decades.
Faced with the potential loss of our community sanctuary, several long-term club stewards have stepped back into the fray. There leaders have returned not for glory, but out of necessity, to steady the ship, implement rigorous financial controls, and ensure the “Roadrunners’ do not become a footnote to history. We are currently in the fight of our lives to correct course and restore the integrity Reverend Blacker intended for us.
The Vision (The Rebuild)
We are now driving a comprehensive cultural and financial rebuild to transform Dempster Park into a modern sanctuary. Our vision is to be a community-friendly hub that is inclusive, safe, and reflective of the beautiful diversity of North Sunshine today. We are rebuilding a space where all members of our community are the heartbeat of the club.
The Call to Action (Stand With Us)
We owe it to the memory of Rev. Blacker, and to every player who has worn the red, white and black since 1967, to ensure this recovery succeeds. We invite every past player, every family, our community and anyone who loves grass roots clubs to “rattle the can” with us.
By donating to our Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) campaign, you are providing the lifeblood for this recovery. Every tax-deductible dollar directly supports our debt reduction strategies and the protection of our club’s assets. Your support ensures that sixty years from now, Dempster Park is still a place where everyone truly belongs.
