I would like to introduce you to Orlando Massey, a dedicated young athlete who has been training in the martial art of Taekwondo for almost three years with Hoju Martial Arts in Tasmania.

Orlando is 13 years old and currently a Red Belt, working diligently toward achieving his Black Belt. Through consistent training, discipline, and commitment, he has developed a strong passion for the sport and a clear goal for 2026: to earn selection in the Tasmanian National Taekwondo Team.

Orlando trains four days a week at Hoju Martial Arts under the guidance of his coach, Master Josh Warren, a highly respected instructor who has represented Australia internationally. In addition, he completes daily training sessions at home to further develop his technique, fitness, and competition readiness. His level of dedication and work ethic exceeds what is typical for athletes of his age.

To reach his goal, Orlando must continue building competition experience. Unfortunately, Taekwondo competitions are not currently held in Tasmania, which means interstate travel is essential for him to compete at a national level.

One of the key competitions his club attends is the South Coast Taekwondo Open, held in Nowra, NSW. In 2025, Orlando achieved excellent results, earning 1 Gold and 1 Silver medal.

In addition to competitions, Orlando must attend interstate training camps with mainland clubs to further develop his skills, gain exposure, and meet the criteria required for higher-level selection.
