🏀 Help Owen Represent WA at the 2026 Special Olympics National Basketball Games

Hi, my name is Owen Edwards, and I play soccer and basketball all year round.

From the age of six, I’ve been playing soccer — spending winters on the field and school holidays playing indoor soccer. Over the years, I also tried athletics and basketball.

In 2016, I moved from mainstream soccer to Equal Football, and that changed everything. I found a place where I felt understood and supported — a place where I could develop in sports and as myself with the players and coaches. It helped me build confidence, resilience, and a real sense of belonging. Since then, I’ve continued playing Division 3 soccer with clubs across Perth.

Basketball has become another important sport for me. What started at school grew into something I truly love. In 2024, I began training at the Cockburn centre, and in 2025 I joined the Kalamunda team. I’ve been playing weekly games and competing in carnivals, and I’ve discovered that my height gives me a real strength in defence. I love the energy of the game, the teamwork, and the challenge — it pushes me to improve. I also like to help others in the games, so that they also have a chance to shoot a hoop.

💛 This year, something amazing happened…

I’ve been selected to represent Western Australia in the 2026 Special Olympics National Division 2 Basketball Team in Melbourne this October.

This opportunity means the world to me. It represents years of hard work, growth, and never giving up. To wear the WA colours and compete on a national stage is something I am incredibly proud of — and something I never take for granted.

But I need your help to get there.

To attend, I need to raise $4,500 to cover training, flights, accommodation, meals, transport, and equipment. It’s a big goal, but I’m determined to go.

    🙏 How you can help

Any support — big or small — would mean so much to me and my family. Every donation brings me closer to representing WA in the games. If you’re not able to donate, simply sharing this page would make a huge difference.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and for being part of my journey. Your support means a lot to me.
