ABOUT Rosie Fordham

When I was 9 years old after winning the school Cross Country Carnival I told a friend that I was going to go to the Olympics. At the time I didn't know Cross Country Skiing was even a sport and to think that I'd be knocking on the door of representing Australia at the Olympics a mere 15 years later in a sport I picked up as a teenager would have been unbelievable.

Growing up in Sydney I played every sport I could including soccer, cricket, netball, touch football, softball and hockey. After quickly realising I had an aptitude for endurance sport and a lack of coordination when it came to ball sports, I decided I would stick to running. My family would spend our school holidays Downhill Skiing. Some friends invited my brother and I to try Cross Country Skiing in the afternoons and from that we did Interschools and I found my way to the NSWXC team. I began training on rollerskis in Sydney at the end of year 8 and started racing the next winter, eventually finding my way onto the national team competing at the Youth Olympics and Junior World Championships. My love for running never faded and I took both sports to college in the US where I compete for the University of Alaska Fairbanks and study Statistics.

Hardwork and dedication to the dream led me to become the first Australian to win a medal at a major International Championships this past season, with my silver medal in the 10km race at the U23 World Championships. I also acheived Australia's best ever finish at the World Championships - 20th in the 50km race. I hope to continue this success in the upcoming Olympic season.

Support will help pay for the costs of coaching, travel, training camps, wax support and living expenses. It's a priviledge to be able to dream big and I thank you for your support.
