ABOUT Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron
“We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails”
Sailing requires a mindset which supports a full and rewarding life.
Whether as a recreation or a profession, sailors must:
- understand and accept the elements,
- apply their personal skills, available tools and technology,
- cooperate in or lead teams and,
- possess drive, resilience and endurance
Goals in sailing may be to win a race, to explore new places, to simply enjoy time with others or, sometimes, to survive.
What distinguished sailing from other sports is the central place of nature and the skills and tools to cope with and profit from it. Nature underscores the need for resilience and adaptability.
The attributes developed as a sailor, and a sailor’s goals, parallel life more broadly.
The RMYS Foundation believes the benefits of sailing go beyond the sport we love to support these life skills and raises money in support of Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron.
