Ruby’s Journey to the Deaf Olympics

Hi, I’m Ruby Miller, a 17-year-old soccer athlete from Leeton, NSW.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve dreamed of representing Australia on the world stage. Growing up in a small country town, that dream felt far out of reach. But when I was given the chance to play for Australia against the United States in Denver, Colorado, it hit me—this dream is possible. And I’m more determined than ever to make it a reality.

"My journey in soccer has been filled with incredible highs and challenging lows. From the moment I took my first steps onto the field at Dick’s sporting stadium in Denver Colorado ready to take on the American team, I have dedicated countless hours to training, pushing my limits, and striving to be the best I can be. Having to train by myself, waking up early, traveling countless hours, just to try and compete for a spot against all the city people.

Why Now Matters

I’m on the brink of something huge. I have my eyes set on the Deaf Olympics in Tokyo, and I’m doing everything I can to get there. But I need your support. The costs of training, traveling, and competing are massive, and without help, it’s hard to keep pushing forward. That’s why I’m asking for your support in making this dream a reality.

The Real Cost

To keep pursuing my dream, here’s a breakdown of what’s needed:

  • Training & Camps: $300–$400 per camp (including accommodation)

  • Equipment: $150 for boots, $35 for grip socks, $25 for shin pads

  • Travel: $150 per fortnight to Sydney for training, plus insurance

  • Competition Fees: $8,000 for entry to the Deaf Olympics

  • Total: Just over $10,000

Why Donations Matter

Every dollar you donate brings me closer to my dream of competing at the Deaf Olympics and proving that where you come from doesn’t limit your potential. Your support will directly help cover training costs, travel, and competition fees so I can focus on what matters most—performing at my best. And beyond that, your donation will help show others with disabilities and rural athletes that dreams are worth fighting for.

The Ask

I’m asking for your support to help me get there. Every dollar counts, and together, we can make this dream a reality. Thank you for believing in me and for helping to bring the Deaf Olympics to life.
