ABOUT Ryan Hockey

Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, Ryan Hockey comes from a proud lacrosse lineage his father, Chris Hockey, and uncle, Jeff Kennedy, both represented Australia. But Ryan’s early passion was rugby union, introduced to him by his late Welsh grandfather. He started playing for Palmyra Rugby Club at age seven and was fully committed to the sport until his best friend, Alex McGuffin, invited him to help out a lacrosse team that was short on numbers.

From that moment, Ryan balanced rugby, lacrosse, water polo, and school. Over time, his focus shifted entirely to lacrosse, drawn in by the challenge of skill development and the drive to improve. Though he struggled at first, his hunger to get better set him apart.

Everything changed in the U19s program that’s where Ryan developed his skills and confidence. He became a standout player for East Fremantle and hi progress earned him an opportunity to play college lacrosse in the U.S. at Nassau Community College, where he helped the team to a national championship.

Ryan has since gone on to represent Australia internationally and is now a member of the national Sixes squad, with his sights set on the 2028 Olympics. Off the field, he works full-time as a qualified E&I commissioning technician, balancing elite athletic preparation with a demanding career. His story is one of family legacy, a come back from injury, relentless work ethic, and an unshakable pursuit of excellence
