ABOUT Sam Denison
Hello! I’m Sam Denison.
I am a 18-year-old golfer from Melbourne, Victoria, and I have just completed Year 12 at Prahran High School. My goal is simple but ambitious: to play the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, proudly representing Australia.
My Journey
Most elite golfers grow up with a club in their hands, introduced to the sport by their parents. My path was a little different. My dad tells the story, on the way to school one day when I was about 7 years old, I pointed out the window and asked my dad, "What do they do at that place?”
The place was Elsternwick 9 hole public golf course. Sure enough when Dad picked me up from school that afternoon, I asked if we could go there. Dad hired some clubs from the pro shop, we played 9 holes and I haven’t stopped playing or training since.
From that afternoon at Elsternwick Public Golf Course, I started lessons at Brighton Public Golf Course and then to Albert Park Public Golf Course, where I met professional golfer David Diaz who guided me and encouraged me to play in tournaments.
In 2019 I earned a coveted spot in Royal Melbourne Golf Club’s junior squad, under the guidance and mentorship of golf professional Ryan McCarthy. I have represented the Club in Junior and Colts pennant. This year I was runner up in the Junior Club Champion and third in the Club Champion, open age.
The Reality
Training from first light to sundown each day is what I love doing. It’s never hard for me to get out of bed and get to the course. I don’t find it a grind, I look forward to the process. I spend my weeks balancing training and playing tournaments with work at Albert Park Golf Course Pro Shop to contribute to my costs.
Why Your Support Matters
“It takes a huge effort, a lot of travel and many events to learn how to play tournament golf at a high level. I believe Sam has the skills, mindset and family support to have a successful professional career if his development continues on its current trajectory.” - Ryan McCarthy - Senior Teaching Professional Royal Melbourne Golf Club
I am now entering a pivotal phase of my career. I have committed to IOWA Western College in the United Sates on a part scholarship and will move there in July. I will be studying Business alongside my sporting commitments, which will include college tournaments and elite amateur tournaments in the USA, Australia and internationally in 2026. With my family's support and your support, I believe I can take the next step in my golfing career.
