    ABOUT Summer Phillips

    Stafford, QLD

I’m so excited and incredibly proud to share that I’ve been selected to represent Australia in the Women’s Quad Scull at the U19 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria with the Australian Under 19 Rowing Team.

A few years ago, after deciding to pursue rowing competitively, I set myself the goal of one day wearing the green and gold. In Year 10, I moved from Brisbane to Pymble Ladies' College where I commenced boarding school to fully commit to chasing this dream. Life quickly became shaped by early mornings, school, gym, and long hours on the water.

Last year, I narrowly missed selection for this team. It was tough, but it pushed me to work harder than ever. Over the past year, I have grown not only as an athlete but as a person. While making this team is an incredible blessing, I am most proud that I proved to myself that anything is possible with determination and belief.

This campaign involves around 11 sessions each week, two a day (minus 1 full day off), plus multiple sessions on both weekend days, which has meant that I have spent a lot of time away from home and my family. Their constant encouragement, along with the support of friends, coaches, and teammates, has made every early morning, every tiring session, and every sacrifice feel worthwhile. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by people who believe in me and continue to cheer me on.

Travelling to Bulgaria to compete and to Italy to train comes with significant costs, so any support, big or small, would mean more than I can say. Thank you for being part of my journey and helping me take on this amazing opportunity.
