ABOUT Sunshine Coast Springboard & Platform Diving Inc

Bokarina, QLD

We're fundraising to upgrade our diving boards!

Introduction

Sunshine Coast Springboard and Platform Diving Inc (SCSPD), based at Kawana Aquatic Centre, is the region’s only springboard diving club. Established in 2021 and affiliated with Diving Queensland and Diving Australia, we deliver programs ranging from grassroots "Learn to Dive" through to State, National Age Group, and Elite levels, as well as inclusive recreational sessions for all ages and abilities.

As the only Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) diving hub outside Brisbane, SCSPD allows local athletes to train closer to home, reducing the burden of frequent travel and supporting a healthier balance between school, sport, and family life. We also host community competitions, including the Diving Queensland Community Cup, which strengthen participation, connection, and regional pride. SCSPD currently operates at full capacity with 193 members.

Project Summary

This fundraising project will install a second 3M Duraflex springboard at Kawana Aquatic Centre, the only deep-water diving facility between Brisbane and Rockhampton. The upgrade will immediately double training capacity, reduce wait times, and introduce synchronised diving to the Sunshine Coast for the first time. It will enable sustainable club growth, retain local talent, and align more closely with Queensland Academy of Sport pathways, while also attracting competitions, training camps, and tourism. By increasing access for beginners, schools, and inclusive community programs, this project will create lasting health, social, and economic benefits for the Sunshine Coast.

Project Need and Opportunity

Kawana Aquatic Centre is the only facility between Brisbane and Rockhampton with the depth and infrastructure required for diving. Currently, local athletes are often forced to travel to Brisbane several times a week—or relocate entirely—to train at an appropriate standard. This is a major barrier for families and limits participation growth.

The installation of a second 3M springboard will address these challenges by:

  • Expanding capacity by 30%: Supporting more "Learn to Dive" and squad participants.
  • Improving training quality: Reduced wait times will allow more effective and structured sessions.
  • Introducing synchronised diving: Providing a new pathway for athletes and creating opportunities for additional competitions.
  • Increasing community engagement: Schools, adults, and recreational participants will have better access to safe, structured programs.
  • Supporting multi-sport use: The diving pool also serves groups such as Kawana Waters Swim Club, Sunshine Coast Water Polo Club, Deep Sea Diving Training, and the broader community through open sessions and events.

This fundraising project will support the installation and associated infrastructure required to bring this asset into operation, ensuring the facility can meet both current demand and future growth.

Inspiring Everyday Lives

This project will create a lasting impact by:

  • Promoting active, healthy lifestyles: Diving offers a safe, low-impact sport that improves strength, flexibility, and confidence.
  • Providing local access to opportunity: Families will no longer need to travel to Brisbane to participate in structured diving programs.
  • Inspiring the next generation: The excitement and spectacle of diving—both recreational and competitive—encourages new participants and builds community pride.
  • Fostering inclusion and connection: Through accessible programs for beginners, schools, adults, and people with disabilities.
  • Contributing to the Brisbane 2032 legacy: Supporting the development of athletes and showcasing the Sunshine Coast as a hub for grassroots and high-performance sport.

By improving infrastructure, this project will inspire everyday participation while helping to develop future champions within their own community.
