Sydney Outfielders is one of Sydney's longest-running LGBTQIA+ inclusive sporting communities. For over 25 years, we've been bringing people together through softball, creating a welcoming space where everyone can play, connect, build friendships and feel part of something bigger.Today, our league has grown to more than 235 players across 14 teams, representing an incredible diversity of genders, backgrounds, ages, abilities and sporting experience. For some, it's their first time picking up a bat. For others, it's a return to a sport they love. For many, the Outfielders is much more than a softball league — it's a place to find friendship, confidence, belonging and community. But keeping an inclusive, volunteer-run sporting organisation going takes more than enthusiasm. It takes financial support.
What Are We Fundraising For?
Our season-long fundraising campaign will help cover the essential costs of running and growing Sydney Outfielders, including:

Field Hire & Facilities: Securing safe, accessible playing fields for our weekly competition, training sessions and community softball activities.

New & Replacement Equipment: Purchasing bats, gloves, balls, helmets, bases, first aid supplies and other essential equipment so everyone can participate safely.

Coaching & Development: Supporting rookie inductions, skills development, training sessions and opportunities for new and experienced players to improve.

Keeping Softball Accessible: Helping us maintain affordable membership fees, concession rates and inclusive opportunities for people facing financial barriers.

Mardi Gras & Community Visibility: Supporting our participation in Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, including the sporting and community activities that celebrate LGBTQIA+ visibility, inclusion and belonging.

Supporting Our Volunteers & Game Day Operations: Helping cover essential equipment, umpiring, safety and operational costs that keep our competition running smoothly.

Why It Matters
We believe sport should be for everyone — not just those who have played before, can afford expensive equipment or feel comfortable in traditional sporting environments. Our members include people who have never felt welcome in sport, people returning after years away and people discovering a supportive community for the very first time. With participation growing, so too are the costs of equipment, field hire and delivering a safe, inclusive competition. We want our community to grow without allowing cost to become a barrier to participation.
How You Can Help
Our committee and volunteers work throughout the year to organise games, maintain equipment, coordinate events, welcome new players and keep our community thriving. Through this campaign, we hope to supplement membership fees and community fundraising with donations from members, friends, families, local businesses and supporters. Every donation, big or small, will help us invest in the equipment, facilities and opportunities our members need. Whether you're a current player, a former Outfielder, a friend of the league or simply someone who believes in the power of inclusive community sport, your support makes a difference. Help us make this season our most inclusive, accessible and exciting yet. Together, we can make sure Sydney Outfielders continues to be a place where everyone belongs — on and off the diamond. Community Before Competition. Always.
