    ABOUT Taina Garay

    Bentley Park, QLD

    In her words

"Hi my name is Taina and I've been playing baseball for since 2022. I'm one of the only three girls out of all the Junior league teams this year in Cairns and the whole time I've played baseball there has only been a few girls playing in Cairns and surrounding areas. I like to play 2nd base, 1st base and pitcher as well as any positions in the outfield. My most favourite thing about baseball is the game itself how you have to anticipate where the ball will be hit, how you have to know what do do and how to back up your team mates. "

Taina loves playing baseball. Like many young talented athletes in the Far North, despite her passion for the game and support of her family, there are significant financial barriers in being able to participate in sport especially higher level competitions and access further development opportunities by participating in baseball tournaments is often beyond the financial means of her family and located outside of the region.

    Taina says:

"Having the opportunity to play outside of my region has helped me improve my baseball skills, make new friends and connections with other female baseball players my age. It was great seeing what other girls my age can do and when I'm around so many awesome players and coaches like that it just makes me want to work harder. Being selected for these teams allowed me the opportunity to train with the NQ Open Women's team."

After receiving crucial financial support from funds raised via this platform, Taina was able to participate compete as a friendship player for Brisbane West She Wolves for the 2025 Qld Youth Womens Baseball State Titles in South East Qld in December 2025, represent QLD The Barclay Cup competitive friendship tournament in Adelaide South Australia in October 2025 and the U17 Rising Stars Girls Tournament in Sydney in January 2026. Taina was also able to allocate a small portion of excess funds towards essential equipment.

As of March 2026, Taina has been selected to represent Far North Queensland in the upcoming mixed Qld Youth Invitational State Titles (venue TBA) on the 10-12 April 2026. Taina has been training twice a week plus completing strength and conditioning exercises.

If you would like to support Taina's baseball journey funds raised through this donation page will be used towards compulsory tournament fees, flights, ground transport and additional required uniform items for the QLD Youth Invitational State Titles.
