ABOUT Tara Neyland
Hi, I’m Tara Neyland – a para cyclist working towards debuting internationally at the 2025 Para Road World Championships in Belgium and with the ultimate goal of representing Australia at the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
I compete in both para and able-bodied cycling across multiple disciplines – road, track, gravel, cyclocross, and MTB – driven by a deep passion to push my limits and perform at the highest level.
In 2023, I was diagnosed with FSHD muscular dystrophy – a progressive neuromuscular condition that causes muscle weakness and loss. So far, it has affected my shoulders, core, left hip, and right calf. I can’t rebuild these muscles, only adapt and make the most of what I have. Cycling has always been a huge part of my life, but given the degenerative nature of this condition, more than ever, I ride with purpose, urgency, and gratitude.
I made my debut as a para athlete in 2025 at the Australian Road National Championships in Perth and currently hold a national C4 classification. This August, I’ll travel to Europe to undergo international classification – a key step toward racing on the world stage.
I’m not yet a funded athlete and am currently working part time and trying to train full-time with the goal of excelling at international competition, but the costs are significant.
Your support will directly help cover:
• Costs associated with travel for overseas and domestic racing
• Equipment and maintenance
• Competition entry and support team
• Day-to-day living costs so I can focus fully on health, performance, and longevity in the sport
