ABOUT Tara Neyland
Hi, I’m Tara Neyland – a Melbourne, Australia based para cyclist working towards representing Australia at the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
I compete in both para and able-bodied cycling across multiple disciplines – road, track and gravel – driven by a deep passion to push my limits and perform at the highest level.
In 2023, I was diagnosed with FSHD muscular dystrophy – a progressive neuromuscular condition that causes muscle weakness and loss. So far, it has affected my shoulders, core, left hip, and right calf. I can’t rebuild these muscles, only adapt and make the most of what I have. Cycling has always been a huge part of my life, but given the degenerative nature of this condition, more than ever, I ride with purpose, urgency, and gratitude.
I made my debut as a para athlete in 2025 at the Australian Road National Championships in Perth and internationally at the Belgium Para Cycling Road World Championships, I currently hold an internalnational C4 classification.
I’m currently working part time and trying to train full-time with the goal of excelling at international competition, but the costs are significant.
Your support will directly help cover:
• Costs associated with travel for overseas and domestic racing
• Equipment and maintenance
• Day-to-day living costs so I can focus fully on health, performance, and longevity in the sport
