ABOUT Tegan Franklin
I started sailing in 2015 when I was 9 years old at Concord Ryde Sailing Club and have sailed ever since. I started out by crewing, and then quickly moved on to sailing a single handed Firebug and then a Spiral where my unstoppable love for the sport began at my first Spiral nationals. Over the past 10 years I have crewed and skippered on a number of boats from single handed Spirals, Lasers and Foiling Wazps to keelboats like J24s, Etchells and FarEast 28ers. I not only have a love for sailing myself but I also have a passion for coaching juniors that are at any and every stage of their sailing experiences, from serious regatta coaching to just fun adventures.
I plan to continue and advance quickly in my sailing journey by competing in higher performance boats and at higher levels. I have the opportunity to compete at the J24 world championships in Melbourne later this year as a youth skipper representing New Zealand. My team and I are planning to train consistently over winter in the hope to become the youth world champions in the J24 class. Additionally, my ultimate goal in dinghies is to compete in the double-handed women's boat the 49erfx. As a step towards this goal, my plan is to purchase and compete in a 13ft skiff out of Manly 16ft Skiff club next season.
