South Passage – Adventure Under SailSouth Passage – Adventure Under Sail operates the 100-foot (30.5m) gaff rigged schooner South Passage, providing young people with a truly unique opportunity to learn, grow and develop through adventure under sail. As a not for profit organisation supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, South Passage relies on voyage fees, donations and community support to continue delivering our youth development voyages. Designed specifically for young people aged 14–17, our voyages provide a safe, supportive and challenging environment where participants are encouraged to develop independence, confidence, initiative, self-discipline, teamwork and leadership skills. A unique experience under sailSouth Passage is sailed in the traditional way. There are no winches or mechanical aids to raise and lower the sails – everything is done by hand. Sailing the ship requires everyone onboard to communicate, contribute and work together as a team. Away from many of the distractions of everyday life, young voyagers are given the opportunity to challenge themselves, form new friendships, learn practical skills and discover what they can achieve when they work together. It is much more than a sailing voyage – it is an adventure that can build confidence, resilience and skills that young people can carry with them long after they return to shore. Help keep Adventure Under SailWe are seeking donations to help young people who may otherwise be unable to participate in a voyage aboard South Passage due to financial disadvantage, as well as to assist with the ongoing maintenance and preservation of the vessel. At $275 per day, a typical three-day voyage costs $825 per participant. Every donation, large or small, can make a difference. By combining your contribution with the generosity of others, we can help provide young people with the opportunity to step aboard South Passage, experience the challenge and excitement of traditional sailing, and benefit from this unique youth development experience. Your support also helps keep South Passage sailing. Maintaining a 100-foot traditional sailing vessel in a safe, seaworthy and operational condition requires ongoing maintenance and significant resources. Donations help us care for and preserve the vessel so she can continue providing adventure under sail for future generations of young people. Your support helps keep South Passage sailing, giving more young people the opportunity to experience an adventure they may never otherwise have – one that can stay with them for a lifetime.
