I’m Toby Powers, a 23-year-old elite Australian triathlete from the Gold Coast, currently training between the Gold Coast and Girona, Spain. Alongside a demanding 26–30 hour training week, I work as a qualified electrician to self-fund my passion and pursuit of competing at the highest level of the sport.

My long-term goal is to represent Australia at the Olympic Games in 2028 and 2032. This season, I’m aiming to earn selection for the U23 World Championships in Spain in September and continue building towards competing at the highest level of international triathlon. 

Triathlon has become much more than just racing for me. I love the constant challenge — pushing my limits, overcoming setbacks, and discovering how far I can go in pursuit of excellence. Every training session, race, and opportunity is a step toward my long-term goal of representing Australia at the Olympic Games and competing with the best athletes in the world.

Over the past few years, I’ve been fortunate to achieve strong results internationally, including winning the Wuhan Asian Continental Cup, multiple podium finishes across Asia and Oceania, and earning a silver medal at the Junior World Championships. These experiences have only motivated me more to continue improving and chasing bigger goals.

As an emerging professional athlete, I currently self-fund my career while working as a qualified electrician. The financial demands of competing internationally are significant and include:

• International flights and travel expenses
• Accommodation and living costs while racing overseas
• Training camps and race entry fees
• Equipment, servicing, and recovery costs
• Coaching, nutrition, and medical support
• Ongoing training and living expenses while based on the Gold Coast (home)
