ABOUT Tru Hagens

Dear Friends, Family, and Community,

It all started 15 years ago when my mum took me to kindy gym at Castle Hills Rsl..... then the dream emerged. I never imagined that one day I would have the privilege of wearing the green and gold and be representing Australia on the international stage.

Today, at 19 years old, I’m facing one of the biggest milestones in an athlete’s career—making the transition from junior competition to senior international gymnastics.

To be completely honest, I expected this year to be a rebuilding year. I thought I would spend the season adapting to senior competition and gaining experience. Instead, I exceeded every expectation by earning my first senior Australian team selections, finishing 4th at the World Cup, and helping Australia win a Team Bronze medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. So unexpected but thrilled !!

While those moments are incredibly rewarding, they represent only a small part of the journey.

For the past 14 years, every competition, every training session, and every setback has been building towards this dream. I have proudly represented Australia on multiple occasions throughout my gymnastics career, and every time I put on the Australian uniform, it reminds me why the sacrifices are worth it.

Away from the competition floor, I’m a full-time electrical apprentice. Like many young Australians, I work a full day before heading straight to the gym to complete around 26 hours of elite training every week. Balancing the physical demands of a trade with the intensity of international gymnastics is challenging, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

That workload comes at a cost. Recovery isn’t a luxury—it’s essential. Regular physio, osteop, sports massage, strength and conditioning, and injury prevention treatments are all vital to keeping my body healthy enough to train and compete safely. These expenses, along with travel to and from training, competition costs, accommodation, flights, uniforms, equipment, and international travel, quickly add up.

While representing Australia is an incredible honour, many of these costs aren’t fully covered, meaning athletes and their families often carry a significant financial burden.

Following my success in Glasgow, my next goal is to compete at the World Championships , then hopefully LA Olympics , with the ultimate destination being Brisbane Olympics 2032. Every step forward brings me closer to achieving my dreams.

If you choose to support my journey, your donation will directly help cover international travel, accommodation, competition expenses, and the recovery treatments that allow me to continue performing at my best.

Every contribution, no matter how big or small, genuinely makes a difference. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing this page with your family, friends, or workplace is another incredible way you can support me in chasing my dream.

I’m committed to giving everything I have every time I wear the green and gold, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who is part of this journey with me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting my journey as an elite Australian gymnast
