ABOUT Victor Betancourt Quintana
Hi, I’m Víctor Betancourt, a high-performance gymnast at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). I started gymnastics when I was four, and it’s been a part of my life ever since. Over the years, I’ve competed in events like the Youth Olympic Games, Bolivarian Games, Pan American Games, and South American Games, as well as local competitions here in Australia, winning medals and reaching finals along the way.
I created this profile on the Australian Sports Foundation because I want to get one step closer to my Olympic dream. Being an athlete isn’t easy, managing medical bills, physiotherapy, supplements, rest, work, rent and food, all while staying focused on training and your goals can be really tough. This platform gives me hope that I can get the support I need to keep going, whether it’s for competitions, training, surgeries, treatments or physiotherapy.
Gymnastics has been my passion since I was a kid. It’s taught me discipline, patience and perseverance, and every fall, injury and success has shaped who I am, both as an athlete and as a person. My dream now is to give back to Australia, the country that has welcomed me, by representing it with pride and leaving a positive mark on the sport – and hopefully inspiring others to chase their own dreams too.
