Visit websiteOne of the CYCA's most remarkable success stories is its youth training program, the Youth Sailing Academy. The CYCA Youth Sailing Academy is one of the leading keelboat training facility in the country, giving young people aged 13 - 25 the opportunity to learn the intricacies of fleet sailing and match racing. In 2023, the YSA celebrated its 30th anniversary and marked the occasion by hosting the World Sailing Youth Match Racing World Championship.
To date, over 3,000 students have graduated from the YSA’s introductory course, with many going on to successfully represent the CYCA and Australia at both national and international regattas including the Olympic Games, America’s Cup, The Ocean Race and SailGP.
In addition to the Learn to Sail and Intermediate Sailing courses offered, those wanting to further develop their sailing skills can gain more experience by enrolling in the Talented Sailor, Development Match Racing, and Advanced Squads offered during the winter months. These courses focus more on the advanced aspects of sailing including racing rules, tactics, match racing, physical fitness, campaign planning, sail trim and boat maintenance. Upon completion, students are encouraged to participate heavily in Club events to acquire valuable experience in keelboat racing.
All courses are on board the CYCA's ten Elliott 7 metre sports boats which carry a crew of 4 or 5. These boats allow the CYCA to offer internationally recognised youth match racing regattas and provides those learning to sail with fast, stable and fun open skiff style keel boats, which are easy to sail and great for teamwork development.
Please consider making a tax deductible donation today and help provide our youths with the opportunity to learn and enjoy the sport we love!
