Goal

$15,000.00

We have big plans for Yarralumla Tennis Club and we need your support. We are trying to raise $15,000 for a number of exciting initiatives to improve our facilities and to make it easier for members, guests and the whole community to play tennis. We also want to support our talented juniors.

Currently planned initiatives are:

  • LED lights – these make night tennis easier and more accessible because they provide much better light, and don’t have the annoying 15-minute cool-down period which can cause delays in bookings and competition matches. They are also good for the environment
  • Junior development fund – we would like to establish a fund to lend support to our juniors chasing a national ranking. ACT juniors have to travel frequently to interstate tournaments to gain ranking points. It’s a heavy time commitment for their families, and expensive, so it would be good to be able to make a contribution to their efforts.

Future initiatives include:

  • Facilities for the whole family – we plan to build an awesome kids playground and better spectator facilities for the rest of the family to enjoy while watching others in the family play tennis
  • Public hitting wall – we want to upgrade the local hitting wall to provide a facility for local kids to play. The current wall is pretty much unusable due to the gravel surface, and at the very least it needs a concrete base and a net installed above the wall to catch balls. The upgraded wall will remain outside the club grounds and will be free for anyone to use
  • Hot shots mini courts – these provide a great pathway for younger kids starting their tennis journey and would be a nice addition to the range of sporting facilities in the area. This may be combined with the hitting wall or done as a separate project.

Yarralumla Tennis Club welcomes all players, regardless of age or ability, background or gender. You don’t have to be a member to play at Yarralumla Tennis Club, and there are many ways to enjoy the club:

  • book a court online - our new online Book a Court facility allows anyone to book using their smartphone or other device. All you need is an internet connection
  • social tennis - we offer five organised social tennis sessions a week, which are open to all to join
  • competition tennis - for those who like competition, we are always looking for more players for adult and junior pennant, as we have teams in most ACT pennant competitions.

Ultimately our vision is to be part of a thriving sport and recreation complex in our corner of Yarralumla. There are terrific facilities right next door - the school basketball courts, ovals, public playground - and in the future we hope to see a great community use for the old YMCA site on the corner.
