2025 I’m Sophia Sammons, and I am a cyclist from Perth, WA. I have always loved sports growing up, and thought I found the one with running. However, as it so often happens, I got injured. To stay fit while rehabbing I took up some cycling with my dad. At first I absolutely hated it - Perth was always windy and cycling took hours compared to running. But slowly, I started to love the sport. Now my dream is to become a professional cyclist and win gold at the Olympics. Since joining the sport 2 years ago, I’ve come a really long way. 2024 especially has been a big year of growth and development for me. I joined a local Perth team, Cycling Development Foundation, and competed both nationally and internationally for the first time! With such a supportive team around me, I was able to achieve some results I am really proud of. In my debut NRS race, the Melbourne to Warrnambool, I placed fourth from a break away. In early April I won the Oceania U23 TT championships and later in the year, I placed 5th GC at Tour of Gippsland. While I had a lot of success, I was confronted with shortcomings and setbacks. Financial constraints meant I couldn’t go to as many races as I would have liked, and the races I did go to, I was plagued with cramps. However, these setbacks have made me more motivated and hungry for success. I was also lucky enough to experience racing in Europe with CDF. While it was completely different from anything I have ever experienced, I am keen for more! As I head into 2025, I will be joining a new team and signing up for as many races as I possibly can. Having the 2025 nationals in Perth this year is really exciting as it will be the first national level race my parents, family and non-cycling friends will see me do. I have some big ambitions for both the TT and the road race, and I am training really hard to make that a reality and make them proud. Additionally, the new Provelo Superleauge will be a super exciting opportunity for me to prove what I am capable of! To realise these dreams, I will need additional support. The expenses of racing and training have become too much for me as I am entirely self-funded. I require help to cover the costs of training, flights, racing logistics and general living expenses for next year. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I really appreciate it. Any contribution will help me to continue to reach my dreams of becoming a professional athlete. I know I am capable of getting there.

I am looking forward to a 2025 season full of racing and training. I have some big goals and ambitions and I am keen to see what next year brings!

Help Liv get to the Indoor Netball Junior Nationals in Perth Liv has been selected to represent Victoria in the Under 14 girls Indoor Netball team. The national championships are in Perth in February. Liv is extremely honored to have been selected in this team, however it is at a huge financial cost to be funded by the athletes. The trip to Perth to compete including flights, accommodation, food and uniforms is around $3,500. Liv is working very hard to achieve her dreams. She attends Rowville Sports Academy in the netball program, plays and trains domestic netball, plays and trains footy league netball, representative netball for Casey & Melbourne Waverley, and attends Snedzfit Gym for strength and conditioning. On Sundays she currently trains 3 times, including training for Indoor Netball Victoria, Dandenong Valley State Titles Under 15 Squad and Casey Netball Under 15 Representative Squad. Anyone who knows Liv, knows she is one very committed and determined young lady. Liv is also fortunate enough to be heading to New Zealand in January as part of the Netfit tour - encompassing netball, fitness, leadership, mindfulness and mentoring from retired elite netball players. Liv has been saving for this trip for a very long time and cannot wait get to NZ and get started. With both of these amazing opportunities so close together, we ask for help to support Liv in her netball journey and any donation would be greatly appreciated. Emma Berg -Oceania Championships 2023 My name is Emma Berg and I have been selected to represent Australia in the Oceania Cup in Saipan, Northern Marianas on the 23rd and 24th of June 2023. The Oceania Cup is the major athletics competition in Oceania for 2023. Oceania includes 20 athletics federations from throughout the Pacific. In keeping with Oceania Athletics Association policy, the event is being conducted at a major athletics complex in the island federations. In terms of area Oceania is the largest of the five regions in World Athletics albeit including many of the smallest federations from throughout the Pacific. The event is essential as it is a World Athletics event for ranking points. This competition is the 3rd time I have been selected for an Australian Team in Oceania plus the Australian Under 23 Development Team in 2022. Although Athletics Australia subsidises the expenses the majority is funded by the athletes, with an estimated cost of $4000. Plus additional expenses such as physiotherapy and gym for strength and conditioning. My coach although highly credentialed as a Level 3 World Athletics Coach is a volunteer. To achieve this selection I have competed in National and State Championships and selected events outside of Bendigo at my own expense. This has included weekends in Geelong and Melbourne and the National Championships in Brisbane. I am the current National and State Open Women’s Shot Put Champion (3rd time National and 4th time State) and hold the Victorian Country Open Women’s Record. I am also currently ranked number 1 in Australia both on performance and World Athletics Rankings. I see this competition as another “stepping stone” for my aim in 2026 to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Ballarat. World Athletics ranking points are an important factor in selection in major events and the event in Saipan is an opportunity not only to compete at a major regional event but also to gain valuable points. I have been competing in athletics for over 12 years initially with the Swan Hill Little Athletics and South Bendigo for the past 8 years and am coached by Peter Barrett Currently, I live in Bendigo and juggle work in aged care, a La Trobe University nursing degree and training commitments. In 2022 I completed full-time study in nursing at the Victoria University of Polytechnic, Footscray. My athletics is self-funded. Any donations would be immensely appreciated and would be a huge help toward travel, physiotherapy, training and competition costs.

Parkrun Australia Defib Appeal 2024 At parkrun, the safety and wellbeing of our community is our top priority. Every parkrun event is equipped with a life-saving defibrillator to help in instances of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). However, to ensure these critical devices are always ready to perform when needed, they must be replaced at least every eight years. Your support is vital in maintaining our defibrillators in peak condition. Regular maintenance is essential, including checking and replacing pads and batteries and monitoring expiry dates. This ongoing care ensures that our defibrillators are always effective and reliable in an emergency. Since 2011, parkrun in Australia has expanded to 500 communities around the country with more than one million people having taken part. As encouraging as our expansion is for the health and happiness of people around Australia, parkrun must remain committed to ensuring the safety of our participants. No matter the location of a parkrun, we believe everyone deserves the same right to a safe and secure event. This means preparing for the unexpected wherever we can. One of the most essential aspects to prepare for is SCA, which causes a death every 80 minutes in Australia. SCA can affect anyone, anywhere. Each minute without Defibrillation reduces the chances of survival by 9%. As a Global health charity, committed to maximising health and wellbeing, we believe in the highest standard of safety, which means maintaining equipment of the highest standard. No defib, no parkrun. Our parkrun Australia Defib Appeal has been established to ensure we can continue to provide the highest standard of safety for participants. Your donation will support existing parkrun events along with helping the establishment of parkruns in more locations. Why are defibs important? According to a study lead by Monash University PhD Scholar, Briad Haskins: “Remember for best outcomes, you need to get an AED [defibrillator] to someone within five minutes of them collapsing.” According to the Australia Bureau of Statistics , almost 2% of people in Australia will experience a heart attack sometime in their life. The rate of people reporting heart attacks has increased 6% since 2017-18. Heart attacks are responsible for causing almost 1 in 25 of all deaths. One person dies from a heart attack approximately every 80 minutes. One person every nine minutes is hospitalised due to a heart attack. People living in Inner Regional Australia were more likely to have heart, stroke and vascular disease than those in Major Cities (7.3% compared to 4.6%) According to Heart Research Australia using a defibrillator within the first minute of sudden cardiac arrest, can potentially increase the chance of survival rate to 90%.

Provide new and replacement defibrillators wherever they are needed at parkrun Australia events to keep parkrun safe for everyone.

Armani 2025 Athletics Journey to Perth and USA Our daughter Armani has qualified to represent Victoria at the Australian National Athletics Championships being held in Perth in April 2025. Armani will be competing in the U/17 Hepthalon (female) event. This is Armani's second season of competing in the Hepthalon. Previously she came 5th at last year's nationals held in Adelaide and is looking to improve on this. Armani has also been chosen by The Maribyrnong Sports Academy to captain the Team to the Simplot Games held in the United States in February next year. This is a great opportunity where she will compete and further develop her Heptathlon events. Armani has dedicated a large portion of her life to pursuing excellence in Athletics and has consistently showcased her exceptional talent, determination, and discipline throughout her athletics journey that all began at the Williamstown Little Athletics Club. CSA National Mission Christian Surfers Australia Since 1977, Christian Surfers Australia has consistently provided grass roots surfing programs in coastal communities across Australia. Activities are primarily focused on participation and on the wholistic well being of each person involved. Trained leaders and volunteers provide a supportive and safe community for young people (and the young at heart) to enjoy surfing and adventure, whilst being positive role models that encourage healthy life choices and gratitude to the Creator of the waves. What is the CSA National Mission? CSA partners with the Australian Sports Foundation to provide tax-deductible receipts for donors to give toward the success of CSA grass roots programs throughout Australia. Funding will be used to support new initiatives and strategic projects that will better equip and serve the national movement. Brighton Cricket Club History Brighton Cricket Club (founded 1842) is one of the oldest cricket clubs in Australia, and currently plays in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association competition, the second strongest club competition in Melbourne. The club fields four senior teams in the VSDCA and a further 13 junior teams in local competitions, ranging from Under 12s to Under 16s. This season the club has also entered an Under 13 girls team and plans to expand its women's cricket program in the coming years. In the course of its history, 12 international cricketers and over 60 first class cricketers have played with the club.

Julian's U20 Worlds Championship Hey, my name is Julian and I’m happy to share that I’ve been selected to represent our country at the upcoming U20 World Ice Hockey Championships in Serbia! This opportunity means a lot to me as it is the last time I will be able to play with this team. I first started playing when I was 5 years old, and have not stopped since. This passion has taken me across the world, playing in Switzerland, Canada, America, Japan, Serbia, and more. Covering the costs of travel, accommodation, equipment, and more, is quite a challenge. However, with your support I can focus on preparing for the championship without the additional stress of financial barriers. Wests U18 Irish Rugby Tour After conquering RugbyWA's youth rugby competitions over the past 3 seasons, Wests' U18 side is touring Ireland. The tour comprises matches against: Rockwell College CBC Cork St Munchins Blackrock There will also be opportunity to train at some of Ireland's high-level professional clubs and facilities. The goal is to bring these players together to grow and improve as rugby players and gentlemen. In preparation for the pressures and rigors of Senior Club Rugby in WA.
