BGH Breakers is a sport and wellbeing community club focused on providing social change outcomes using the vehicle of sport in the connected suburbs of Bridgewater, Gagebrook and Herdsmens Cove (which all rank in the top 7 most disadvantaged suburbs in Tasmania and where persistent and entrenched disadvantage continues to increase).
'BGH' stands for Bridgewater, Gagebrook and Herdsmans Cove. 'Breakers' stands for strength and breaking down barriers.
There has been a generational void (40 years +) of sporting clubs representing the BGH suburbs, and we believe this young, large and growing community of 7,000 people should have the same access and opportunities to sport that other suburbs/towns have. BGH Breakers is one club for all sports. We utilise local community and school facilities to deliver activity. We value, encourage and promote community voice and agency, and club activity is community-driven.
Our members come from some of the most disadvantaged suburbs in Tasmania and we enable them to participate in sport for free. We fundraise to cover hurdles to participation including registration fees, uniforms, and transport costs.
