Visit websiteParticipation in our experience, especially among school age children, comes through encouragement from friends who already ride and compete. Similar to sailing, where it's hard to learn without a boat, equestrian needs suitable horses, good facilities and competent coaches to bring newcomers safely into our sport. Events with low barriers to entry also provide children with the opportunity to mix with other riders, including our elite athletes. Foundation funding will be used to develop education tools and programs to welcome new participants into equestrian.
Equestrian Clubs in NSW are the life blood of our sport. On almost every weekend, there will be up to 10 major competitions with up to 700 riders at an individual event. Clubs are run predominantly by volunteers who struggle to provide the facilities and infrastructure to stage events. Additional funding will be dedicated to infrastructure upgrades with a strong focus on horse and rider safety.
Equestrian NSW supports the national high performance program. At the elite level, the cost to compete one horse exceeds $30,000 per year. It is planned to attract more private support for our elite athletes, at a group and individual level.
