Fundraising Goal: $20,000
Ice Hockey Australia (Australian Ice Hockey Federation Incorporated) has six state member ice hockey associations and is the recognised governing body for ice hockey in Australia. IHA is affiliated with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), and Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), and is an active member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The Under 18 Women's Team is a program within Ice Hockey Australia set up to foster young girls with potential to be elite female players in Australia.
January 2016 was the first time in history Australia was invited to the World Qualifiers in Austria. We gained invaluable experience playing against stronger ice hockey nations and were invited back to Qualify for Division 1 B. in Spain in January 2017. Our goal is to win gold in the qualifiers so that we can attend the U18 World Championships in 2018. As this is the second time at the Qualifiers, the girls will know what to expect and how to compete at the level of their opponents. With continued exposure to stronger and experienced teams from around the world, Australia's U18 team will bring back stronger and better skills to women's ice hockey throughout the country. It is expected that many of these girls who have participated in the u18 Worlds will move onto the Women's National Team, bringing with them a wealth of international experience and to help the National Team to continue to climb the World Rankings.
