An overview of our junior program.

Our Vision

At Lonsdale Links, we would like to offer all junior members free weekly junior clinics for the entire year. These sessions will be delivered by our PGA Professionals and will run in conjunction with the school terms. Students can register for weekly clinics when they are available to take part in the sessions, this will be set-up much like our bookings are structured for our golf course.

Why we want to do this?

Growth of the game in the area

Juniors are exposed to a large variety of sports as they progress through school. Without doubt the most popular sports are team sports such as football, soccer, cricket and netball. We want to not only expose our great game to more junior athletes, but we also want to create that “team” environment for our game. If we are able to attract a large number of juniors in the area, they will be able to develop together at Lonsdale Links. This will increase the likelihood that we will have long term golfers and members of our club. Golf is competing for the attention of youngsters against other sports and activities, the more we can do to offer our game to kids the more likely we are to see a strong uptake and future for golf in our region.

Growth of Membership

At present, we offer a junior program at an additional cost to parents. This program is aimed at developing young golfers to a point where they hopefully become junior members of the golf club. Through this proposed program, our clinics and membership will work hand in hand. If we have enquiries regarding junior membership, we will then be able to offer free tuition and conversely any enquiries for junior clinics can help to increase membership numbers due to this offering of included tuition.

Junior members are more likely to become long term golfers

As mentioned earlier, we want to create a “team feel” and sense of belonging for our young golfers. We want them not just to be taking lessons or clinics at the club, we want our juniors to be part of the club as Junior and Cadet members. Juniors that are involved in a golf club as members are far more likely to continue with our game and work their way through the club from Cadets to Juniors and eventually into full membership. The more juniors we have, the more likely it is that these juniors will create bonds that will keep them playing our game and involved with the club for years to come.

Added Value for Our Adult Members

Our current 7 Day members receive free membership for their children. This program offers an additional aspect to the offering for our members. By adding included tuition for Junior and Cadet members, our 7Day membership categories can receive free clinics and golf course access for their children. This is of significant value, with most junior clinics costing upwards of $800 annually per child.

Point of Difference vs Other Golf Clubs

We are expecting this program to have a huge impact on our junior membership numbers. However, this could also have a positive effect on our other membership categories. As far as we know, we are one of a very small number of golf clubs that would offer a program such as this. If we have prospective members deciding between Lonsdale Links or surrounding clubs within the area, these offerings could influence their decision in our favour which will ultimately grow our other membership categories.
