$40,000.00

Since taking over the Bike Library, in late 2023 it has quickly become one of Pedal Power’s most cherished initiatives. The Bike Library, which is located at the Margaret Hendry School in Taylor, provides free access to bicycles, helmets, locks, bike repairs and community Fix n Ride events. Currently, the Library is supported by Community Services #1 in conjunction with the Suburban Land Agency’s community development program, Mingle. However, this support is set to finish in 2025.

That’s why we need your support to keep this much-loved program running.

Why the Bike Library Matters

The Bike Library is more than just a place to borrow bikes; it’s a community hub that helps advance the health and well-being of our community through the promotion of the safe and convenient use of bicycles.

It offers:

  • Affordable bike access: Ensuring everyone, regardless of their financial situation, can enjoy cycling.
  • A welcoming community: A place where you don’t have to spend any money, just turn up and be part of our community
  • Skill and confidence building: Teaching community members how to fix their bikes and keep up with regular maintenance
  • Environmental Impact: Promoting cycling as an active transport alternative
  • Freedom of a bike: Empowering community members to ride to work, school or just for fun

The Bike Library sees an average of 15 people using the Library each Tuesday and plenty more at our Saturday Fix n Ride events.

Your Contribution Makes a Difference

Here’s how your donation can help:

  • $50 provides a spot in a maintenance workshop to skill up a new volunteer to work at the Bike Library- more trained volunteers would also allow us to increase the opening hours of the Bike Library to reach more people.
  • $100 gives ten people a helmet so they can ride their bike safely
  • $500 supplies spare parts and tools for bike repairs
  • $1,000 allows us to host Fix n Ride community events.

If we don’t raise enough money to keep the Bike Library running, we will use these funds for Pedal Power’s ongoing activities and programs.

Other ways to help the Bike Library:

Attend Our Events: Join us in September for a fundraising event hosted with the Suburban Land Agency. Stay tuned for details!

Donate Bikes: Have an unused bike? Donate it to our library, and we’ll ensure it gets into the hands of someone who needs it.

Volunteer: We are always looking for volunteers to help fix up bikes and loan them out to the community. You don't have to be a skilled mechanic - we can teach you!
