About the project
VAVA Inc. (The Voga Alla Veneta Assoc. of South Australia Inc.) is the first Venetian rowing club in Australia. But before we can get rowing, we need to build some boats. With some homegrown boats, we will be able to offer Australians the opportunity to row just like they do in Venice, Italy.
Venetian-style rowing is an excellent whole-body form of exercise that's great for individual or social recreation and can also be done competitively. And when we have enough people trained and experienced enough here in Australia, we plan to travel to row with Venetian-style rowers in Italy, Germany, Malta, France, Holland, England and the US and ultimately host international visiting rowers here in Australia.
The boat pictured will become the club's first training boat. It was designed by Dr Kim Klaka (MRINA - Member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects). Called the Serenity Sandolo, it is based on a classic Venetian sandolo but is slightly shorter, wider and higher than a typical Venetian sandolo making it more stable for training purposes in Australian conditions.
Through the club's fundraising partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation, donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. So please show your support by donating today!
