The expected outcomes of the Wanderers ADP program are diverse and relate to the participants becoming better athletes and better people.
1. Performance – Improvement in player performance (stronger, faster, fitter and more skilled) and game results (training and game data).
2. Mental Health – Improvement in player physical and mental health (decrease in injury and mental health issues)
3. Structure – Providing young people with a structured program that helps to develop personal skills an increase social responsibility (goal setting and accountability. Teamwork, friendships and leadership).
4. Community – Creating supportive communities (increased community awareness and engagement).
Target participants for the ADP are 15-23 year old players within the club. Program particpants are selected through a vigorous screening process, involving a written application process and panel interviews.
Selected participants in the ADP are not required to make any financial contribution, however they are required to give 100% commitment and partake in volunteering and community work.
The program runs across 12 months and involves three key development periods focussed on: off-season (6 weeks), pre-season training (8 weeks) and on-season (maintenance and monitoring throughout the playing season).
The ADP also involves the participation of the Wider Training Squad (WTS), and senior players of the club identified as future trainers and mentors.
The program is run at the club’s training premises in Newcastle, and is facilitated by senior club coaches and volunteer professionals.
